Czech this out!

So this past weekend my friends and I went to Prague. It was me, Claire, Kate, and Adam. Let me start off by saying that this is the first weekend trip I have taken with friends to another country (but not the last). We bought the tickets over a month ago and purchased the hostel reservations soon after, but other than that, we did not do much planning for the trip. My friend Lauren (who has been to Prague before) sent me a super great list of the places we should check out while there, and we ended up using that as a rough guide to how our time there would be spent.

Unfortunately though, we really didn’t have that much time there. Our plane was set to land in Prague at 11 pm Thursday night, we then would have all day Friday and half a day Saturday to explore before flying home Saturday late afternoon at 5pm. However, in classic RyanAir fashion, the plane was delayed, so we did not land until after midnight friday. That was real fun when we were standing in the airport looking at each other and realizing we were going to be back at the airport the next day to fly home. Anyways, we got to the hostel and Adam had to finish an assignment for school so we didn’t end up going to bed until like 2AM, or 3AM in his case.

FRIDAY: Our plan was to wake up and go see the sunrise. That plan quickly deteriorated due to the whole ‘staying up till 3AM’ bit, so we settled for waking up at 7AM, which means we didn’t actually roll out of our bunks until 8AM. The morning was a bit disorganized as we tried to rent bikes from our hostel but they didn’t have the proper stuff (like bike locks). So we ended up grabbing breakfast at a nearby cute cafe and then buying 24-hr tram tickets.

From there we really started to explore Prague, going to places like the John Lennon Wall,  this weird but cool tower, giant metronome in a park, and this cool monument to a poet. Granted, we were very disorganized so we spent the majority of our time walking between the places. We also got lost taking the tram in the wrong direction at one point. But my friends are good company so even when tired, wandering and lost, we had a good time–which naturally led to us having a water fight on the streets of Prague.

As it started to get dark we headed into the Old town where we ate a traditional Czech donut/ice cream cone thing: the trdelník chimneyimg_9187

We then happened upon a “Beer Museum” and since the Czech Republic is the largest consumer of beer of ANY COUNTRY we felt it was fair to go inside. Honestly, the museum itself was just okay. But afterwards we were brought down into this cool old cellar/ bar and given a flight of Czech beers to try out

At this point, all we had eaten the entire day was snacks so we were STARVING. So we ended up going to a pub and getting some really delicious burgers and just hanging out. We also made the promise that we would be more organized the following day.

SATURDAY: This day we woke up early so that we could go to the Castle. As it turns out, the castle was a giant complex with a bunch of other impressive buildings in it, so we got a lot of great photos of Czech architecture and we got to go into cathedrals and throne rooms and such

We then headed towards the clock tower, which turned out to be an awesome looking clock. The clock was in the Old town so we spent the rest of our time that day eating lunch and buying ourselves little trinketsimg_9215.jpg

By the end of Saturday we were beat. WE headed back to the airport and along the way a lot of great sleeping photos were taken.

Long story short, we had no plan going it, it was slightly disorganized, but I still had a blast and everyone made it out (mostly) alive. (Due to the lack of sleep and all our close contact we are now all deathly ill AGAIN. I have decided that I am just going to accept being sick 24/7 for the rest of the semester)img_9217

Specifically fun memories from this trip:

  • “Wow wow wow wow wow WOW woooooow wow wow wow wOW…”
  • “Hands, shoulders, knees and toes”–Claire and I both swore that the song went like this and even did the same exact hand gestures when arguing so
  • Kate tackling me in a park in order to show me “how one plays rugby”
  • Adam unable to hear anything that Claire said
  • PAYING FOR THE BATHROOM (angry)
  • Water fight
  • Claire’s bag as the firetruck bag (don’t ask)

Absolutely gorgeous pictures. The architecture was incredible. Looks like the only two people that were sleeping where Cody and Adam! Ha ha!
