  • Trail Names

Many of you, my lovely readers, have requested hearing the stories of how thru-hikers obtained their trail names. Well, ask and you shall receive (some of the time at least)! I’ve reached out to some of the thru-hikers I met on the northern portion of my flip flop and asked them to tell the story of how they received their names. Thus, these stories are told from their point of view. I hope you enjoy! The ways in which a thru-hiker obtains a trail name can vary. As you will read, some came onto the trail with names already, either from previous thru-hikes, or life experiences. Others obtained their trail…

  • My Family Visits Edinburgh (Christmas and Hogmanay)

Long before I actually arrived in Scotland, my family planned to come and visit me. Along with them came a family friend, Kim! It was decided that they would come for Christmas and New Years, or Hogmanay, as it is called here. Not only is this so that they can see Scotland, but because Edinburgh is one of the worlds Festival capitals, and it is known for having a great New Years Eve party. The family landed on Dec 24th. We spent that day, Christmas, and the next day relaxing and exploring the city. I took them up Arthur’s seat (ofc), to a classic Christmas lunch (this took 20 hrs),…

  • The final goodbye for us exchange students

Technically my birthday party was meant to be the last hurrah …but there was no way we were not having one last event So, despite the fact that we all had finals/should be studying/sleeping/should be sick of each other. We did one. last. night. It was the 18th. the goal? spend one great last night with my fellow exchange students Michaela, Kate, and Flo. Use this time to say goodbye to each other and to all our freshmen friends who have made our time here so special. then stay up until midnight (the 19th) so i could at least spend a few moments with my lemons on my actual birthday…

  • Milan. Where Wine Pairs Nicely with Great Friends.

This past weekend I went to Milan with Eleanor and Alessandra. Both are freshmen at Edinburgh from the states. Additionally, Alessandra has family in Italy, and she speaks a little bit of Italian, so this trip was for her. The trip was from Saturday-Monday afternoon, and honestly, everything went super well. Actually even better than expected, with us seeing more sites than we planned on seeing, and people going out of their way to help us. It was also more organized than some of my other trips because we had created a google doc that we had been editing for the past 6 weeks which had all the places in…

  • A thank you to my team

For those who have followed along with my time here, you know I joined a Field Hockey team , and honestly it was one of the best decisions I made. It got me to go out and meet new people, and so many people in the field hockey club have brought me in and made me feel welcome There are two groups I want to thank: the 5’s and all the the goalies Honestly, while I am sure I would say this about any team I would be on, I feel so lucky to have ended up on the 5’s. They are the type of people that bring you in…
