Backpacking Brands with Great Warranty’s
I’ve read plenty of articles talking about brands with great warranty’s, but I wanted to highlight brands that I have seen/used while backpacking which I have seen uphold their warranty’s. To me, I would rather buy a product from a brand I know will cover their gear, than one who will shrug me off when I contact them asking for help.
Brands with Lifetime Warranty’s:
Osprey
“Osprey will repair any damage or defect for any reason free of charge“. I have personally seen Osprey uphold this warranty for their backpacks multiple times on the trail.
Outdoor Research
All Outdoor Research gear is backed by the OR’s Infinite Guarantee, which promises that their “gear is guaranteed to perform throughout the lifetime of the product.”
Sea To Summit
“The Sea to Summit Guarantee is our promise to guarantee our products against manufacturing defects in materials or workmanship for the lifetime of the product.“
NEMO
“All NEMO products carry a lifetime warranty against defects in workmanship and materials to the original owner, with proof of purchase from an authorized NEMO dealer.“
Outdoor Research
THE INFINITE GUARANTEE “Outdoor Research gear is guaranteed to perform throughout the lifetime of the product. Our products are built with only the highest quality standards, rigorously tested, and with your total satisfaction as our goal. We want to see our customers use our gear to its full potential, which will include natural weathering from outdoor environments.“
Patagonia
Patagonia offers its Ironclad Guarantee, promising that “We guarantee everything we make. If you are not satisfied with one of our products at the time you receive it, or if one of our products does not perform to your satisfaction, return it to the store you bought it from or to Patagonia for a repair, replacement or refund. Damage due to wear and tear will be repaired at a reasonable charge.”
Darn Tough
Darn Tough’s socks are Unconditionally Guaranteed for Life claiming that “If these aren’t the longest lasting socks you’ve ever owned, you can return them to us for another pair. No receipt needed, just the pair in question.” We hikers go through socks like its nobody’s business. What’s great is that you can just exchange your Darn Tough socks at most outfitters on the trail.
North Face
North Face covers its products with a Limited Lifetime Warranty for the lifetime of the product, to the original owner.
Time-Based or Limited Warranty
L.L. Bean
Their guarantee is “We stand behind all our products and are confident that they will perform as designed. If you are not 100% satisfied with one of our products purchased directly from L.L.Bean, you may return it within one year of purchase for a refund. After one year, we will consider any items for return that are defective due to materials or craftsmanship.”
Black Diamond
“We trust what we make because we use what we make. Black Diamond Equipment, Ltd. (“Black Diamond”) warrants to the original end-user purchaser that its Black Diamond® products will be free from material or manufacturer defects for the Warranty Periods outlined [here].”
Arc’teryx
“Arc’teryx is proud of the quality and performance of all our products. Items covered under our Limited Warranty will be replaced or repaired at the discretion of Arc’teryx for the practical product lifespan. Product damaged through wear and tear, misuse, or neglect may be repaired at a reasonable price.”
MSR
MSR offers a 3-year Limited Warranty.
Leki
Leki Trekking poles have the following coverage: “a one year warranty on our Carbon Shaft Trekking poles and a lifetime warranty on Aluminum Shaft Trekking poles. The warranty covers shaft breakage only.“
Shoes
Altra
“Altra provides a 1-year limited warranty on any manufacturing defects from the date of purchase on shoes purchased from altrarunning.com or an authorized Altra retailer. Altra warranty program does not cover defects due to improper fit, normal wear and tear, damage due to misuse, alteration to the product, or negligence. Footwear covered by the Altra warranty will be replaced at Altra’s discretion. Replacement is the sole remedy available. INCIDENTAL AND CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES ARE EXCLUDED. You may have other rights that vary by state.”
Saloman
They’ll give you two years, and any kind of hard use, for the footwear to die, before which it is replaced for free.
HOKA
HOKA warrants its footwear products will be free from material defects, damage caused by improper care prior to the time of purchase, and workmanship defects for one year from the date of purchase by the original consumer purchaser.
Thoughts
Many brands well known to the ultralight community, such as Topo, Gossamer Gear, ULA, etc… I have not included because, while they do have warranty’s, I didn’t view them as “great” when compared to these above. I hope this article helps you when you are next looking to purchase a product!
