A thank you to my team

For those who have followed along with my time here, you know I joined a Field Hockey team , and honestly it was one of the best decisions I made. It got me to go out and meet new people, and so many people in the field hockey club have brought me in and made me feel welcome

There are two groups I want to thank: the 5’s and all the the goalies

After we beat the 6’s. Accidentally wearing my Cal shirt

Honestly, while I am sure I would say this about any team I would be on, I feel so lucky to have ended up on the 5’s. They are the type of people that bring you in and make you feel welcome. I felt that there was a good balance between having a fun time, enjoying playing the sport we love, and also putting pressure on ourselves to win games and play our best. Socials were a blast. The team always looked out for each other, and one of my favorite parts of each week was Thursday morning when the entire team would be messaging trying to piece together what happened the night before. (legit so entertaining)

Shout outs to

  • initiation night where I put makeup on only to be dressed up as a frog and have green paint dumped on me (I would have you know some of my clothes are still dyed)
  • team dinner, where I incorrectly thought I would actually get to eat a dinner with my team
  • Christmas meals, where once again I was a promised dinner, however @Mirch took my utensils away >:(
  • The entire team trying to teach me Scottish sayings like cheeky, foosty, gumshield???
  • Not knowing what teas or prow was, telling Molly, and her ratting me out to Mirch who then informed the entire team
  • Oh yeah, basically any time I told Molly anything her spilling the beans to Mirch
  • @Lily getting the DJ’s credit card and buying us all shots
  • Everyone wearing balloons to team meals and the boys popping all of them 🙁
  • All the morning-after photos sent of no one being able to make it out of their beds for school (as if i even go to class anyways lol)
  • Everyone being shocked that I don’t know different things like the songs ‘A Fairytale in New York’ @megan, or the irn-bru version of that snowman song
  • @Mirch for thinking I was from the Netherlands despite the fact I wore an American goalie smock the first half of the season and consistently point out how I do not know how to handle the weather here because in California it is always 70 (Fahrenheit), sunny, and NOT RAINY
  • @Josie for meeting up before practices/games/team meals
  • @Leanne for understanding the #studyabroad
  • @All my defenders. Thank you for not hating me for not knowing your names like the first month of the season–I remember telling you guys in a practice that you all looked similar from behind, don’t worry, I now know your names…
  • @Emma for taking me under her wing
  • @Everyone I ever took out when attempting to save a goal ( I think Leanne had a particularly hard fall one time as a result of me, but no goal right?)
  • @Erin because during games I can hear you talking to yourself and it is so entertaining
  • #McSorley’s for life

Also, to all my goalies–you’re the best. we had such a night at Christmas dinners with me being super sad that the season was endingimg_0367img_0348img_0409img_0359

From games with pouring rain, to Christmas practices where we just messed around, hockey has been a great addition to my time here. For all my friends studying abroad in Edinburgh in future years, join a team, they are an immediate group of friends

Love this post!!!!! So happy you played. I know many dreams have been fulfilled there in Scotland. Playing Field Hockey was one of them. You are an incredible goalie and I am sure they were happy to have you.
Hey….can I have your Christmas sweater if you are going to give it away? Going to Peru and all, I would love to have a La La La Lama Christmas Sweater! Seriously!
